Celebrities and popular jingoes are peculiar people. They are always in the news and have no hiding places wherever they go. And when they do host parties, one can only imagine the crowd. That’s the story of my uncle’s birthday.
His last birthday was a memorable one for many reasons. We arrived in the City and couldn’t find a room in the entire city, and even in the nearby cities, the hotels and guest houses were fully booked. Our massive family house? Flooded with guests, some of the most famous folks on earth. We ended up putting up with a former church member, and of course, we had a great time reliving wonderful old memories.
But the most notable experience at the party was entering the event center with our uncle – the celebrant. He donned his usual modest outfit. We traversed some sections of the venue and interacted with innumerable people who expressed that they were awaiting the celebrant’s arrival – they didn’t know Uncle. They were there because it was the famous and fun thing to do that weekend.
Amazingly, many who could recognize him got confused. They weren’t sure because they were expecting a celebrant heavily decorated according to the manner of his wealth and influence.
My uncle is Christ. Billions of us celebrate Christmas each year, and that’s so wonderful. But how many of us know the Celebrant? The atheists and agnostics don’t want to have anything to do with Christ but love to celebrate His birthday, so it is no longer Merry Christmas in some places; it’s Holidays, yuletide, Xmas, Santa, snow – etc. However, among us believers, isn’t Christmas becoming more of a religious celebration than celebrating a restoration to the Father? It is not Christmas if it isn’t about Christ.
What do you say? Is there Christ in your Christmas? Ponder on these things as we celebrate this Christmas. Merry Christmas.
