The Good News of Christmas: Celebrating the Reason for the Season

Today, we celebrate Christmas across different cultures, languages, boundaries, and borders. The atmosphere is filled with aromas and vibrant colors. Hearts are filled with joy as we sing melodious songs and reunite with families, and loved ones. As we continue to be merry and exchange gifts, the true reason for the season may be overlooked, reducing Christmas to a mere holiday.

However, Christmas is not just a holiday; it is a significant celebration and the foundation of our salvation, marking the birth of Christ, our Savior. Isaiah 9:6 reminds us, “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

This is what we celebrate today and every day – the greatest gift humankind has ever received. Have you ever seen a CEO, royal king, or president pretend to be the poorest or least important person in their organization, city, or country? Yet, our Lord Jesus Christ, though rich, became poor for our sake, that we might become rich through His poverty (2 Corinthians 8:9).

The birth of Jesus Christ marks the beginning of our salvation story, where He rescues us from the grip of sin and its devastating consequences. Through His life, death, and resurrection, Jesus offers us the precious gifts of forgiveness, reconciliation, and eternal life.

As once-rebellious and disobedient individuals (Genesis 6:6-7), we’ve been transformed into sons and daughters of the Most High God, thanks to Jesus’ reconciling work (1 John 3:1). To celebrate Christmas without acknowledging Jesus is like celebrating a birthday party without honoring the birthday person itself – it’s incomplete and misses the point.

The good news is that this gift is for all people Luke 2:10. Have you accepted this gift? If you haven’t accepted Him, something important is still missing. Jesus is calling you to salvation, requesting only one thing: to open the door of your heart to Him (Revelation 3:20).

Will you accept Him today?

If yes, pray this prayer:

“Lord Jesus, I give my life to you and open the door of my heart to you. Forgive my sins and give me the power and grace to live above sin. From this moment, I am your child. Holy Spirit, come into my heart and let me live for the love of Christ for the rest of my life. Amen.”
