GLORY

The “glory” in this context means pride, spiritual pride. Proverb 16:18 NKJV says, “Pride goes before destruction And a haughty spirit before a fall.” A child of God must be assertive yet humble. “Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering” (Colossians 3:12 NKJV). You may be favoured to have different gifts, talents, and skills. Also, you might be leading a big congregation, or through you, God is performing a series of wonders and saving lives, but always remember that pride could come in unannounced and often in a very subtle manner.

Dear reader, pray and try your best to eschew pride in whatever you do. Do not allow people to put you in God’s position or ascribe the glory and honour due unto God to you. It is very dangerous. Acts 12:22-23 says, “So on a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat on his throne and gave an oration to them. And the people kept shouting, “The voice of a god and not of a man! Then, immediately, an angel of the Lord struck him, because he did not give glory to God. And he was eaten by worms and died.”

In today’s world, achieving results or milestones puts your name in people’s mouths. Encomiums begin to come in, in words and plaques. Some citations and calls to the podiums start to involve some tags and words that you know only belong to the Most High. You have to be watchful and deliberate about staying humble. Rejoice in the great things God is doing in, for, with, and around you, but don’t ever take His glory unto yourself – unto Him be all glory, now and evermore. Amen

May the Lord continue to help us all.
